My IVF Journey: Egg Retrieval

My IVF Journey: Egg Retrieval

An egg retrieval is a surgical procedure done to remove the egg(s) from a woman's ovaries undergoing Egg Freezing or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Surgery is a big and scary word, but the procedure is done in a minimally invasive way, meaning it usually has no scars, stitches, and a short recovery time

My Experience

I woke up bright and early for an 8:30 am egg retrieval. The whole procedure was 1hour in and out with the friendliest staff at FIRM (Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine). I drank juice and scarfed down 2 packs of peanut butter crackers when I woke up. Followed by a lot water and gatorade at home to rehydrate. I read a lot of blog posts where women went back to work the next day and had minimal to no cramping.. that was not my experience..

The Aftermath

I was down for 2-3 days after with a heating pad on my lower tummy. Lightening bolts of pain shot up my pelvis area anytime I used the restroom or moved to fast. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t pleasant either. Be prepared mentally to take some time off if your body needs it. I was expecting to be back up bright eyes and excited to create quality holiday content and recipe videos but instead just needed to breathe in deep, rest and relax. Everyones story is different, listen to your body ladies— that’s the best advice I can give.
